How to Remove Bad Bathroom Odors with LAB

quitar malos olores baño

In one of our bathrooms, there were times when there was quite a bad smell; it came up from the pipes and the floor trap. We tried everything: bleach, cleaning products, regularly cleaning the floor trap, of course… and nothing worked.

The thing is, as we told you in this other article, we made LAB since one of its many uses could precisely be to remove bad odors in the bathroom. Here’s how LAB works to achieve this.

Lactic Acid Bacteria have the property of reproducing at a very high speed, faster than most other organisms in their environment. However, they are not harmful to them, which makes them very useful for the garden and compost as they are not biocidal.

What Happens If We Apply LAB to the Floor Trap?

What will happen is that, since bad odors come from bacteria and fungi that decompose organic matter, by applying LAB, the Lactic Acid Bacteria will start to reproduce so rapidly that they will literally take over the space from the odor-producing ones.

We’ve tried it by not pouring LAB into water, but directly into the floor trap. To do this, you just need to locate the floor trap, which will be a metal cover on your bathroom floor, and unscrew it.

You’ll see a circular pipe, with a circular structure surrounding it, where water is stored. That’s where you should pour the LAB. Close the lid and you’ll see how bad odors disappear in no time.

Other friends and family have applied this trick, and it has worked wonders for them too.

We hope you liked it! If you have any questions, you can write to us here and we’ll reply as soon as possible.

Maintenance Routine

To prevent bad odors from reappearing, we recommend a maintenance application once a week. Simply pour a small amount of LAB into the drains before going to bed. This will keep the population of beneficial bacteria active and control any outbreak of odor-causing bacteria.
